Hi Michał,

There are basically 3 currently supported deployment options for Spokes:

  1. PlantronicsURE-SDK.msm (merge module containing minimal Spokes runtime)
  2. Spokes_RT.msi (minimal Spokes runtime)
  3. PlantronicsSetup.exe / PlantronicsURE.msi / PlantronicsURE_2_6_54523_0.msi (full Spokes runtime)

I personally recommend the option 3 because full Spokes allows your software to operate in a multi-softphone environment, being informed of on-going calling activity in any of the Spokes-supported softphones. Also providing useful out-of-box utilities: Plantronics Control Panel to configure headset, Battery Status Monitor for wireless headsets. Also providing pause/resume functionality of Windows Media Player, iTunes and Winamp.

We used to supply a 4th option which was Plantronics.Device.Common.dll and its dependencies supplied as a single merge module (SDK.msm) or MSI (SDK.msi) (libary only option). However, this particular SDK option, known as Device Manager SDK is no longer supplied or supported as the API it exposed did not provide conprehensive coverage of our device range and feature range.

That means that only the 3 deployment options listed above are available today. Internally all include Plantronics.Device.Common.dll and its dependencies , which is installed into the GAC, under C:\Windows\Assembly. However all options also include and require the Plantronics Spokes runtime: a process called PlantronicsURE.exe that runs on Windows login. It is this process that exposes the 3 current Spokes API options, COM Service for C++, COM Service for C# (requires .NET4 and above), and REST Service.

For deployment options please read here:

Merge modules and installer options for Plantronics Spokes integrations.

For details on the 3 APIs available plrease read here:

So what is Spokes anyway?

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Lewis
